The
Comper Swift metalwork kit represents the most complex kit produced by Aviation
Metalcraft to date, comprising some 480 individual parts and is currently
the only vintage aircraft in the world available in kit form. The kit has
been produced from the original 1930's Comper Aircraft factory drawings

Hinge manufactured from original drawings
Aviation
Metalcraft has been involved with the Comper Swift since 1991. at which time
we were commissioned to produce a kit of metalwork for the second replica
to be built since the closure of Comper Aircraft Ltd. in August 1934. The
kit was created form second generation copies of the original Comper Aircraft
drawings. Copies of drawings may be obtained from Aviation Metalcraft. The
set comprises some 300 drawings which represents approx. 95% of the drawings
of the Pobjoy powered version. It has been possible to gain access to one
of the few remaining Swifts (G-ACTF 'Scarlet Angel', owned by the Shuttleworth
Collection in England) to measure and develop the missing drawings
Until
Aviation Metalcraft started producing metalwork kits for the aircraft, it
was necessary for the builder to construct everything. There is nothing unusual
in this, until one realises that there are approximately 800 individual pieces
of metalwork to be produced. And that the design of a good number of the parts
is such that they are beyond the capabilities of all but a few builders.
In creating the metalwork for this aircraft, Aviation Metalcraft has made extensive use of CAD/CAM and CNC techniques to provide parts of exceptional accuracy at modest cost.
